I got a call from my Mom a month or so ago, and she told me that my Grandma was sick and she might not make it. Part of me was freaking out, but I had to keep my cool with my Mom on the phone, you know? I told her I’d be there in a few days. After I hung, I was worried because I don’t know how I was going to get halfway across the country in a few days when I have no money saved up. I’m usually a pretty resourceful person though, so I knew I would somehow find a way.

First I made a few calls - to my cousin, my aunt, and one of my closer friends to borrow some money. They didn’t have it. I really didn’t know what to do now. I was talking to another friend of mine and he mentioned something about getting a car title loan. It gets so bad you either laugh or cry.  I had an idiopathic (non diagnosable) illness in February, my insurance covered 40% of the hospitalization, meds are NOT covered, my job was eliminated the next month, COBRA will cost $900 per month, I get $100 a month in disability, child support from my ex-husband just quit coming in March, I lost all my charge cards, now the bank has begun foreclosure proceedings.

For almost five years, my husband and I would ride together to our jobs in Bellaire from our house in Meyerland.
